HORSING AROUND
Churchill County is horse country and the has one of the highest horse-
per-capita ratios in the West. The county also offers some of the most
beautiful high desert scenery in the country which makes horseback riding
an ideal way to get out and experience the area's outdoor splendor.
Visitors with their own horses can board them
in covered stalls at the Churchill County Fairgrounds when a rodeo
or other horse-related event is not taking place and using all of the
facility's stalls. Call ahead to make sure there is space available,
(775) 423.7733. You may board your horse for up to ten days. The fee
is just $12 per night or $7 per night if you clean the stall. The fairgrounds
does not provide shavings or feed, its boarding only. If you’re
looking for a longer period of time to board your horse, ask fairgrounds
personnel for a list of private boarders.
Visitors without their own horse can enjoy a horseback ride from Flying
M Stable. Flying M offers breakfast rides, chuckwagon barbecues, and
other services for those looking for an authentic western experience.
Novice or beginning riders can take classes at Flying M as well. The

Dankae Arabians, (775) 423-5185, also provides horse riding lessons.
Riders that know the area can travel to a variety of well known recreational
spots in the county including Grimes Point Petroglyph Trail, Lee Hot
Springs, Indian Lakes, and Lake Lahontan.
