TRAILS
ACROSS CHURCHILL COUNTY
TRACC: A Lahontan Valley Trails System
An ambitious effort to create,
mark and promote a system of trails in
the Lahontan Valley will soon lead to new
outdoor opportunities for residents and
visitors alike.
Trails for horseback riding,
hiking, bicycling, picnicking, and wildlife
viewing are taking shape in the valley
that will connect parks and the diverse
and unique natural, cultural, and community
resources. The Trail system is intended
to increase the recreational and leisure
time opportunities of residents and visitors
while serving a variety of trail users.
Some trails are being built
and other existing trails will be identified
or marked with universal trail symbols.
The net effect will be to provide safe
and identifiable alternative modes of transportation
and recreation for families, children,
and other outdoor enthusiasts.
The trail system is being
designed with input from residents, local
groups, service organizations, businesses
and public agencies. The trails are being
developed in such a way as to protect the
natural environment and any cultural, historical
or otherwise sensitive resources, preserving
the opportunity for generations to enjoy
them. Universally accepted symbols will
be used to mark the trails and identify
usage, restrictions, direction, etc.
Visitors to the area will be able to experience a wide range of new outdoor activities once the system is in place. In fact, the trail system will be marketed to outdoor enthusiasts as another reason to visit and stay in Fallon. For more information on trails call the Churchill County Parks & Recreation Dept., (775) 423-7733.
