The City of Fallon takes pride in its parks system. Fallon
parks are available for use 365 days a year and provide plenty of room
for rest and relaxation. The city owns and operates two major parks,
an open air swimming pool, three neighborhood parks and three ball
fields. In addition two new parks in the City and one in the County
are currently being constructed.
The Mayors Millennium Commission
was instrumental in acquiring land for two new City parks. Millennium Park at
the corner of Williams and Maine St. will soon provide a green belt
for residents and visitors alike. The park will feature shade trees,
benches, walkways, grassy areas and the new City Clock Tower. The park
will also offer some parking and will be a welcome rest stop for travelers
and a great place for those working downtown to have lunch.
The new Venturacci Park will be built on land
donated by the venerable Venturacci Family near Northside Elementary
School. It will feature an amphitheater, skate board park, and basketball
and tennis courts. The planned amenities in the park are sure to be
a hit with the kids.
Laura Mills Park provides over nine acres of shaded
green grass comfort. It features a beautiful new white gazebo, playground
equipment, picnic tables, and two walking paths.
Oats Park provides another nine acres of grassy
open area. The park also features a ball field, open air public swimming
pool, picnic pavilion, and playground equipment. Oats Park is also
the site of an historic restoration project. The Old Oats Park school
is being adapted for re-use as an arts center that will feature a 300-seat
theater, exhibit space, and office areas for the Churchill Arts Council
and the surrounding community.
The three other city parks provide immediate relief for
surrounding neighborhoods. The City's parks system will be expanding
in the near future with another eight acre site on the north side of
town.
Liberty Park. The Churchill County/University
Research Park & Fishing Pond, nicknamed "Liberty Park"
by the United States Navy Seabees from NAS Fallon who helped construct
it, officially opened on Monday, May 4, 1998. The park is located just
west of the Fairgrounds at 2323 Schurz Hwy (U.S. Hwy 95 south).
The park offers fishing from dawn to dusk. Nevada fishing
regulations apply. Persons 12 years old and under do not need a fishing
license while everyone over 13
does need a license. The limit is five fish per person. The park is
equipped with public restrooms.
